Bouvet Nordic Agency is proud to present itself as Scabal's agency - local representative - in Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Iceland.
Founded in 1938 in Brussels, Scabal was originally a cloth merchant and supplier of fabrics. In 1938, Scabal had just 6 employees. Today Scabal employs approximately 600 staff worldwide. Over the years, Scabal has evolved from a simple supplier of fabrics into a supplier of top quality fabrics to the most prestigious tailors and textile businesses around the world. Scabal now has a presence in most European countries as well as in other major centres around the world.
Scabal has also become a designer and manufacturer of the finest ready-to-wear menswear and personalised made-to-measure clothing, allowing their customers to perfect the art of self-expression through their clothing.
Constant improvement through research and design is another Scabal strength. This involves using only the very best raw materials to achieve Scabal's exquisite quality and exclusiveness. Scabal never ceases in its quest to refine its products further and to offer top-level quality and service. The company employs only highly skilled personnel so that there is a specialist at every stage of the production process. This ensures a consistently high level of quality, including the final quality control. Scabal's production capacities are divided between a weaving plant in Yorkshire and a clothing factory in Saarbrücken.
In 1996, Scabal launched an accessory line, an exclusive range of items including shirts, ties, knitwear and belts so that its customers can look a 'Gentleman' from head to toe. The accessories are made in Italy by the best craftsmen and, like the fabrics, are produced using materials of the finest quality.
In addition to these ingredients, there is the extensive range of possibilities offered by Scabal's vast stock of approximately 5000 fabrics, its made-to-measure range, seasonal orders and the three-week re-ordering cycle, plus the quality and reliability of its customer service. This is why Scabal is the preferred menswear supplier to most of its clients, offering them the art of self-expression through their clothing.
There's a reason that Scabal has clients like Barack Obama, Vladimir Putin, George Bush, Sean Connery, David Beckham, Will Smith, Justin Timberlake, Tom Cruise, Pierce Brosnan, Robbie Williams, David Letterman, Tom Selleck and Leonardo Di Caprio - to name a few.

Ready To Wear
Scabal is presenting an ode to the art of the couturier for the summer of 2010. Know-how, many years of experience and a dedication to personal service are the pillars of these "artists of male elegance". Think of Savile Row, a world of fabrics and needles, an age-old craftsmanship combined with today's creativity. All this lavished with a modern, surrealistic touch. New for this season is the "false three-button" jacket: the jacket has 3 buttons but looks like a two-button jacket thanks to the rolling lapel that covers the top button.
Made To Measure
More and more men seek out exclusivity and comfort and swear by a personalised suit, a suit or coat completely made-to-measure, specifically tailored to their body, their taste and personality.
The Scabal Made-to-Measure concept cannot simply be compared to any other made-to-measure work. The clientís wishes are Scabal's command. The client selects a cloth from more than 5000 references. He himself determines the style, the type of buttons and his options.
The result: a completely unique suit or coat which fits like a glove in every sense of the word. Whatís more, the client does not have to wait all that long for his suit. The made-to-measure garments of Scabal take only 3 weeks to complete.
Up until recently, personalised custom tailoring was only available for suits. Starting in Winter 2008/2009, Scabal will also be offering made-to -measure shirts. The shirts are made at the top production houses in Italy. Scabal offers a choice of six models, ranging in style from classic to modern and formal, each with seven different collars and three different cuff styles. Delivery time for the shirts is 4 weeks.
Accessories
Scabal accessories comprise an exclusive range of items made in Italy by the most highly skilled Italian craftsmen using only the finest materials, and include; shirts, ties, knitwear, belts and scarves. The wide choice of styles within the Scabal collection allows the wearer to add a final personal touch to his outfit.
Only the best raw materials are good enough for Scabal. The Scabal credo is "We never cut costs when it comes to materials". This is why Scabal has always been seen as a supplier of luxury menswear. Only the noblest materials like superfine wools, ranging from Super 100's to Scabal's own Super 200's, cashmere, silk and mohair provide the results and comfort worthy of the Scabal name. Most of Scabal's fabrics are produced in Huddersfield, England, a region famous for its long tradition of weaving.
Scabal is one of the most innovative developers of new fabrics, creating new fabric qualities year after year, such as Gold Treasure, Diamond Chip, Temptation, Lapis Lazuli, Summit, Private Line. In this regard, Scabal is constantly engaged in research for ever finer and more luxurious fibres and fabric qualities. Each season, Scabal's designers develop 20 to 30 new fabric qualities and for each fabric, 30 to 40 new designs and colours. All fabrics are stocked at the Brussels headquarters.
Gold Treasure
In line with its tradition of luxury and exclusivity, Scabal has developed Gold Treasure, a fabric made from 22 carat gold and fine count Super 150's, from a rare bale of 15.5 micron Australian Merino wool. It represents not only the finest English craftsmanship, but is a genuine treasure trove, as its only decoration is 22 carat gold.
The aim was to produce a cloth that represented not only a superb piece of craftsmanship but would also offer the reliability and performance qualities that are such an important factor in modern fabric and yarn technology. This precious cloth comes in classic dark shades of black, charcoal and navy blue so that the brilliance of the gold threads is set off against the dark background shades and immediately becomes the focus of attention. As a result of the complex production process and very fine yarn count, Gold Treasure will only be available in limited quantities to a very exclusive clientele.
Diamond Chip
Perhaps men are not so easily seduced by jewellery, but they will certainly appreciate this tailor-made gem of a suit. For all the men out there who insist upon a "Rolls Royce" suit, Scabal has designed a cloth which incorporates diamond fragments. This new fabric range, which has been christened ìDiamond Chipî, comes in a variety of patterns and colours.
The diamond chips are processed into the cloth as soon as the wool has been cleaned and combed. Microscopically small diamond fragments are then spread on the wool, and it is only then that the wool is spun. The result is a shiny thread to be woven into exceptional fabrics. The latter not only shine literally and figuratively, but they also feel comfortable and hang beautifully. Scabal never sacrifices comfort for the sake of beauty.
The cloth consists of a Super 150's wool (80 %) ñ into which diamond fragments have been processed ñ and pure silk (20 %). The subtle grey, brown, and blue tints, the woven stripy patterns and the semi-plain patterns do perfect justice to the sparkling diamonds. Ideal for men who like celebrating in sheer luxury.
Lapis Lazuli
After incorporating both gold and diamonds in its cloths, Scabal is proud to introduce today Lapis Lazuli, an ancient stone that has always appealed to man's imagination. Lapis lazuli - literally "blue stone" has been extracted and revered for more than 6000 years. In ancient Mesopotamia this stone was the reserve of the ruling class. It was the Romans who gave it its present name: "lapis", which means stone in Latin; "lazuli" is a deformation of azul, which is the Arab word for blue and has been handed down to us via the Spanish language and the Moorish occupation of the Iberian peninsula. Since time immemorial lapis lazuli has been known for its therapeutic properties. It is said that this stone has a beneficial effect on the immune system.
Lapis lazuli was also appreciated for its aesthetic characteristics. From the fifteenth to the mid nineteenth century it formed the basis of ultramarine, an intense blue that decorated many paintings and frescos during the Renaissance. Using ultramarine was considered as being a sign of wealth. Today lapis lazuli is used in jewellery and in alternative therapies, both of a physical and a spiritual nature, to counteract throat infections or to heal dysfunctions of the spinal cord, the thymus and the immune system. It is considered to be the stone of total conscience, which opens the third eye and enhances the mental faculties. In astrology, lapis lazuli is associated with Sagittarius.
Private Line
Scabal is taking personalisation just one step further. As of now, there is the possibility of weaving a name or a message into the fabric. This new collection has very appropriately been named "Private Line". In this very elegant way, Scabal is implementing the general trend for increased personalisation. Thanks to new technology, it is now possible to weave complete sentences, and this in an uninterrupted line or with spacing. There is no limit as regards the length of the sentence, so your power of imagination or personalisation will know no bounds. It's all a question of creating something very personal.
Instead of a name, it is also possible to weave text into the fabric, for example for a personal motto, a message of love, the name of a company or club, or even a poem. Or perhaps a wedding date or a date of birth, a case of never ever forgetting anniversaries or birthdays again. This enables a customer to have a joke in a banker's suit, which normally stands for something serious and business-like. He could order the following sentence to be woven into the fabric: "If you can read this, you are standing far too close." By the tone and the content of the message, you will see the human side of the businessman.
Private Line is produced using a mix of 98% wool and 2% cashmere; a Super 180's with a weight of 260 gram per metre. A beautiful quality with a magnificent and comfortable feel, available in navy blue, slate grey or black.
Yangir
Can you imagine a tailor-made suit in a fabric which is even softer than cashmere?
To create this latest Yangir fabric, Scabal has purchased wool which originates from the Yangir, a goat which lives in the wild in the high mountain range of Mongolia, Turkistan, Kazakhstan, Pakistan and Nepal. Well, letís just say the roof of the world. The Mongolian word 'Yangir' means robust animal with fine wool. The wool of this rare species of goat whose colour varies from chocolate brown to creamcoloured, looks like cashmere but is even finer, softer and warmer. It is the epitome of luxury. It is also a highly exclusive type of wool. Worldwide, this wild species of goat only yields a few hundred kilos of wool per annum. Scabal acquires only the finest quality of this wool and selects only a small percentage of its ultrafine, short fibres. Textile specialists define this wool as the "golden fleece of the 21st century". The Yangir fabric by Scabal consists of 20 per cent of Yangir wool and 80 per cent of ultrafine Super 200's wool. Spinning this delicate, shorthaired Yangir wool is not an easy task as it is very labour-intensive. However, the result is definitely worth it: Yangir is the most remarkable fabric for suits developed in recent years. It is an exceptionally soft fabric weighing 320 grams, designed to create the most exclusive suits.
The fabric has an extremely pleasant feel, it drapes well and looks exquisite. What is also remarkable is that the wool of these Capra Ibex Sibirica goats, or Yangir goats, has in the past been woven into scarves by Scabal, but never before has it been used as a fabric to make suits. Yangir is now the top Scabal suit fabric based on this type of wool.
